4 Ways to Care for Your Skin This Summer

June 21st is the first day of summer! This month also sees the start of summer vacation, which adds so much to your schedule.

You’ll be juggling your kids being out of school, continuing to work a full schedule, and planning summer get-aways. It’s easy to get distracted during this busy season and forget to take care of your skin and body. However, you need to be tended to throughout the year, even during the times that make you sweat! Let’s not forget to take care of ourselves, even during family vacations and between wrangling kids when they’re out of school.

Here’s four tips to help you know how to take care of your skin this summer!

1. Hydrate! 

Drinking water is always great for your skin, but even more so during the hot weather. You’re much more likely to become dehydrated during the summer, so make sure to drink more water now! This is a great way to keep your body healthier too! If you are terrible at keeping track of how much water you have been drinking throughout the day, consider about getting a water bottle that has labels, or making them yourself. You can write outside of the bottle with a marker. Your labels should mark how many cups you’ve drank since you filled up the bottle. Ideally, you should try to drink around 10 to 15 cups of water a day. Another great tip to help you drink more water is to freeze flavor into ice cubes! Consider using berries, cucumbers, or herbs to add a little taste to your water.

2. Cover up! 

Make sure to cover up when you’re outside. Wear floppy hats, sunglasses, loose fitted shirts with sleeves or soft covers. It’s always tempting to wear tanks or cami shirts during the heat but try to have even a very thin linen cover over your shoulders. These protective layers help to prevent sun damage and protect your skin. Sunglasses are also a great way to protect your eyes, especially during the hotter and brighter hours of the day. Whenever you are going outside take a moment to put on a cover. Do this even if you’ll only be outside for a couple of minutes but double check that you have something covering your skin when you will be outside for prolonged periods of time. A great cover will do amazing things for your skin! 

3. Sunscreen! 

Sunscreen is a vital part of protecting your skin. Choose an option that is at least 30SPF as anything less won’t be enough protection. It’s important to apply your sunscreen every single time you go outside, even if it’s just for a couple minutes. Try to apply to your arms, face, ears, and even your lips. If you are wearing sandals and shorts, make sure to get your legs and even the top of your feet too. It’s a great idea to find moisturizers that have sunscreen in them to add a little extra protection. It’s also a great idea to have a small bottle you can keep in your purse. If you’re worried about it leaking, stick it in a plastic snack back to protect the interior of your bag. 

4. Pamper!
